NEW YORK — A man convicted of a deadly New York City drive-by shooting spree using a gun police say he claimed came from the devil has been sentenced to 384 years to life in prison.
Police say 39-year-old Matthew Coletta told them he “borrowed the gun from Lucifer.”
Prosecutors say Coletta was driving a green Cadillac when the shootings began Aug. 25, 2006. They say he drove through Queens and shot randomly at mostly red cars.
Fifty-one-year-old Todd Upton was shot and killed as he rode in a car with his wife to their Long Island home. Thirteen people were injured.
Police say Coletta had been on a cocaine and alcohol binge.
Coletta was convicted last month of second-degree murder and 13 counts of second-degree attempted murder. He was sentenced Thursday. He told the judge the wrong man was convicted.
