AGAWAM, Mass — Three officers who were fired for alleged excessive force on a man at police headquarters in June are seeking reinstatement to their positions.
Sgt. Anthony Grasso and Officers John Moccio and Edward Connor were terminated in October in connection with the incident, MassLive reported.
The suspect, 27, was taken into custody after he became angry at a bartender for refusing to serve him at a local Six Flags.
The incident involving the officers was recorded, showing the suspect was combative with officers.
The officers’ attorney, John Connor, said the police “acted in accordance with the rules and regulations of the department” to subdue a drunk and violent suspect.
According to WRIC, the Hampden County District Attorney announced this week that the officers would not be prosecuted for their actions during the incident.
The officers have a combined 70 years of experience and have come to be known as the “APD3.”
Connor said he is confident all three officers will be reinstated once all the facts are known.
Their final meeting is Jan. 31 and a decision could be made by May 1.
