Ky. Police Department Under Investigation; Ex-Officer Kills Himself

Allegations of ‘Funds Missing’ Made

Louisville Channel News (Kentucky)

CLOVERPORT, Ky. - The police department of a small town in Breckinridge County is under investigation.

Both officers from the Cloverport Police Department were forced to resign last month after property seized in a drug case disappeared. And now, the investigation is much more complicated after one of the officers committed suicide, WLKY NewsChannel 32’s Andy Alcock reported Wednesday.

Kentucky State Police officials are looking into the situation, and have questions about the conduct of former Officer David Pace, who killed himself, and former Police Chief Rob Vanderhoef.

“It’s going to be a complex, lengthy investigation,” Kentucky State Trooper Steve Pavey said. “Right now, there are some allegations of maybe some funds missing and some misused property.”

Added Cloverport Mayor Thomas Wheatley: “I’m very disappointed and shocked, really, that it’s happened, because I thought everything was running as smoothly as could be until this happened.”

The Jefferson County coroner said Pace took more than 200 prescription pills.
