BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- A man sought for questioning in the shooting of a state trooper at a grocery store last week has surrendered.
Trevor Detiege, 24, of Baton Rouge, turned himself in late Monday after his mother openly pleaded for him to surrender amid an all-out manhunt during the weekend.
“I think he just wanted to turn himself in because his mother and his sister made those pleas to him on TV,” his attorney, Robert Randolph, said.
Randolph, who accompanied Detiege to police headquarters, said his client has invoked his right to remain silent. Randolph said he is confident that Detiege was not involved in an attempted robbery and the subsequent shooting at a Banc One branch inside an Albertston’s store on Friday.
Detiege was booked with attempted armed robbery and unauthorized use of a movable in another attempted robbery of a Hibernia Bank office in Baton Rouge, police Maj. Keith Breithaupt. Detiege was jailed in lieu of $50,000 bond.
Police are searching for two other men for questioning in the trooper’s shooting. The officer, who has not been identified publicly, has been released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
