Miami Police Use New Tactic in Serial Rapist Search

WPLG-TV News

The police are using a new weapon to try to put an end to the serial rapes in northwest Miami-Dade County. Miami-Dade police mailed out 54,000 fliers to all of the homes and businesses in the area that has been terrorized by a serial rapist over the past year. The fliers will arrive in the mail Tuesday.

The fliers, the first of their kind used by MDP, include a composite sketch of the rapist and a description.

One man has been linked to six sexual assaults -- four of the assaults have been linked by DNA; including the Nov. 28 rapes of two girls, ages 7 and 8.

Authorities say the rapist covers his face and carries a weapon. He finds an open door or window to access the homes of his victims. Most of the attacks took place in the Liberty City neighborhood northwest of downtown Miami, a few miles from where the other serial rapist struck.

Community activists and others are trying to alert others to be on the lookout.

“Ask all of the churches, all of the community groups, all of the persons who are concerned and who care about particularly our girls, our women, to be careful, to beware. And we want to put out an alert for the serial rapist,” said the Rev. Richard Dunn. If you have any information that could help police, you are asked to call Miami-Dade CrimeStoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
