Police said they want to discourage copycats from performing the dangerous stunt

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — A video showing a dirt bike driver performing a dangerous stunt over a busy freeway is going viral, and police are investigating the incident.

“We want to impress upon people that this was a dangerous stunt and somebody could have lost their life on that highway,” PIO Terri Kasinga told the Los Angeles Times. “This could have turned into a tragic situation and we hope never to see this again.”

CalTrans officials recognized the location after viewing the video on Kyle Katsandris’ Instagram and YouTube accounts. They discovered the ramp used to propel the driver over the freeway and disassembled it.

Police said no one reported the incident or called 911, even though the video is shot in broad daylight.

Mike French, Katsandris’ friend, told the publication he’s not positive Katsandris, a motocross enthusiast, is the driver. Katsandris, 24, is allegedly part of a group of nearly 20 bikes that go off-roading on motorcycles in San Diego County.

“He is a very intelligent man. His IQ is through the roof,” French said. “I really have trouble thinking he jumped that jump and posted it online if it is as illegal as it seems.”

The California Highway Patrol and Riverside County Sheriff’s Department are looking into the incident.

Sgt. Randy Costelow said if copycats are caught doing it “they will be prosecuted.”
