An off-duty city police officer grabbing a snack at a popular Williamsburg diner was stabbed yesterday during an argument with a group of men, according to authorities.
The 26-year-old officer, whose name was not released, was in Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center in stable condition and is expected to recover, police said.
Police said Luis DeJesus, 21, of 523 Knickerbocker Avenue, was arrested yesterday at his home. DeJesus, who has prior arrests, including one for assaulting a police officer in 2003, was charged with assault on a police officer, officials said.
About 4:15 a.m. the officer was at Kellogg Diner at 518 Metropolitan Ave. with two friends when they got into an argument with a group of men, police said. The cause of the argument was not disclosed, but it escalated to the point where one of the men stabbed the officer once in the chest.
The assailant and two other men in his group then fled the diner.
The weapon, a folding knife, was recovered at the scene, police said.
