TULSA, Okla. — A deputy who was involved in a wreck died from his injuries Monday.
Deputy Sean Cookson, 23, was injured in a crash with his wife while on his way to mandatory training Feb. 22, NewsOn6 reported.
Investigators said Cookson’s wife, Cassandra, was driving in foggy weather when their vehicle rear-ended a car waiting to make a left turn. Then, their truck collided head-on with another vehicle.
Cookson suffered breaks in his leg, arm, back and pelvis, according to his GoFundMe page. Cassandra was released after receiving treatment for a broken knee cap and arm, and a gash to her eye.
Cookson suffered complications after his heart stopped during surgery. He died Monday night from his injuries, NewsOn6 reported.
A procession of officers escorted Cookson’s body to the state Medical Examiner from the hospital.
Cookson recently completed a Peace Officer certification course. He began working as a deputy Feb. 9, according to KJRH.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family.
