HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — A pickup truck crashed into a patrol car Wednesday evening, killing Virginia police officer Trey Sutton and injuring three others. Three vehicles were involved, Henrico Police said.
Sutton, 24, was driving through an intersection when he was struck, according to WTVR. Sutton died and two other people in his car – a field training officer and a person in custody – were hospitalized. Police described their injuries as critical and potentially life-threatening, the report said. A fourth unidentified person was treated at the hospital and released.
“This is a tragedy for everyone, and my thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved,” said Eric English, Henrico Chief of Police, in a statement. “God bless Officer Sutton for his chosen profession – law enforcement and commitment to Henrico County. Sutton was a well-respected member of his recent academy class.”
Sutton graduated from the police academy in February and was still in field training, police said.
