When I attended the Defense Training International two-day Urban Rifle, it was preceded by a half-day “Tactical Treatment of Gunshot Wounds” course. I’ve attended such training elsewhere and feel all police officers must be trained and equipped to save their own lives and well as those around them.
Still, a refresher is always good and I wanted to see the techniques taught by a firearms trainer. The other classes I’ve attended were taught by paramedics and military combat medics.
John’s ‘no-BS-training’ style comes from his long career of military and law enforcement experience and fits perfectly my own training philosophy. The Tactical Combat Casualty Care — TC3 — techniques are pretty universal, the DTI class was no different from others, until we started applying tourniquets under simulated “hot” conditions. Using “blue” guns, the wounded individual would attempt to self-apply, then would be assisted in donning the tourniquet. At the point of receiving assistance, the wounded officer was expected to provide blue-gun security for both of them.
Get this training, from DTI or another competent instructor. Part of the tuition in John’s class includes a full med kit worth about $150, so you will leave both trained and equipped.
