LOWELL, Mass. — Authorities say a Lowell police officer shot and wounded a man who rammed a stolen truck into an occupied police vehicle after being pulled over in the city.
Police say 32-year-old Christopher Bischoff backed the truck into the police vehicle around 7:30 p.m. Friday in an effort to evade capture. The large truck had a sander attached to the rear.
Police say the officer inside the police car feared for his life and fired several shots.
Bischoff fled the truck but was captured a short distance away. Police say he suffered serious but non-life threatening gunshot wounds. He was transferred to a hospital in police custody.
The unidentified officer was treated at a hospital and released.
The Lowell Police Department, State Police and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office are investigating.
