RIO RICO, Ariz. — A sheriff’s deputy has been released from the hospital after suffering a fractured vertebrae in a rollover accident last weekend in Rio Rico.
According to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, dispatch received a report at 5:47 a.m. on Saturday of a gas leak at a residence on Paseo Mascota. According to the reporting party, there were young children inside the home who were unresponsive when their parents tried to awaken them.
Deputy Jorge Ainza, a six-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, was responding to the call with his lights and siren activated when he lost control of his vehicle while traveling east on Ruby Road, just past the railroad tracks. His SUV rolled three times, trapping him inside.
