Setting mirrors to eliminate vehicle blind spots

Very few drivers of any type properly set their side mirrors. Most set their mirrors to give them three views (including the rear-view mirror) of the same area behind their vehicle. What’s the point?

To correctly set the side mirrors for driving, do the following:

1. Lean until your head touches the driver’s side window. Now adjust the driver side mirror until you can see just along the side of the vehicle.

2. Lean until your head lies above the center line of the vehicle. Adjust the passenger side mirror until you can see just along the side of the vehicle.

3. Adjust the rear view mirror as you normally would.

This will all appear very strange until you get used to this positioning. However, once you do, you will find that there is no blind spot behind you now. If a vehicle approaching you from behind isn’t in the rear-view mirror, it’s either going to be in a side mirror, or along side you and visable right outside your window.

Be aware that this setting is not very good for backing, but then one should be turning in the seat for that.
