PONTIAC, Mich. — An Oakland County Sheriff’s deputy almost lost a leg during a pursuit and arrest, FOX 2 reported.
Dash cam video captured Deputy Raymond Wiggins Jr. being sandwiched between two vehicles.
“His leg was twisted up and over, he was in a painful moment,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard told the publication. “It can go from a calm moment to absolute life and death situations for the men and women on the front lines every day.”
The incident began when Wiggins attempted to stop a vehicle after it blew through a stop sign. Wiggins pursued the 21-year-old driver who was speeding through residential areas.
“That was when the deputy decided to put a stop to it so he didn’t hurt anybody and initiated a pit maneuver,” Bouchard said.
Wiggins attempted to block and stop the driver, with help from two other deputies. The suspect tried to take off, pinning Wiggins against his own car. If it had been an inch either way, Wiggins would have lost his limb, Bouchard told FOX 2.
Wiggins was injured and was on leave with a leg brace.
The driver was charged with fleeing and eluding charges.
