Sonoma County sheriff’s deputies shot and killed someone in a Sebastopol home Monday after being summoned by some of its residents, police said.
Police responded to the home on the 1400 block of High School Road around 8:40 a.m., police said.
The suspect, whose name and gender have not been released, allegedly had a knife and was combative with responding to officers, according to a written statement by the sheriff’s department.
Much of the altercation was caught on audiotape, police said, as several phone calls to and from the dispatch center were made before and during the incident.
According to the written statement, “dispatchers heard what sounded like a very violent altercation occurring, with a child frantically screaming and a male subject chanting and threatening to kill the child.”
The dispatchers also heard the deputies “pleading repeatedly with the subject to drop the knife,” police said.
During a “violent struggle” with the suspect, police said, the person was shot. The suspect died at the scene while being treated by paramedics.
The deputies, who are not being named, suffered unspecified injuries during the incident, police said. Both were released from the hospital after being treated.
One of the deputies has been in law enforcement for 26 years, the other for 18 years, the statement said.
