SONORA, Calif. — A deadly gun battle between a man and police Saturday night ended with the suspect killed and multiple injuries.
The Modesto Bee reports police received a call about a man with a handgun and responded to the scene.
The man, identified by police as 29-year-old Bruce Thomas Snyder, had left the scene by the time police arrived, only to be spotted in a vehicle by an officer in downtown Sonora.
When the officer stopped Snyder’s vehicle, the suspect exited the car and began shooting.
The officer returned fire and was hit in the duty belt. A bystander was also shot in the upper torso – investigators are trying to determine who shot her.
Snyder then led a three-mile pursuit that ended in a gunfire exchange. Snyder was shot and killed by police.
The injured bystander and officer were transported to a hospital for treatment. Both have since been released.
Snyder was on parole for assault with a deadly weapon, according to the report.
The names of the officers involved have not been released. Officials are currently investigating the shootings.
