HOUSTON — A police officer has shot and wounded a man witnesses say threatened people with a gun near a park where Occupy Houston protesters are encamped.
The incident happened about 5 p.m. Monday in Tranquility Park in downtown Houston. Police spokesman John Cannon said the officer struck the man twice with gunshots, including at least once in the ankle. Cannon says the man was conscious when he was taken away by ambulance. No one else was injured.
Occupy participant Tim Jones tells the Houston Chronicle that the witnesses didn’t think the gun was real until the man fired into a reflecting pool.
Several campers told the newspaper that the man was not part of the movement and that they hadn’t seen him before.
