CHICAGO — Recently released body cam footage shows Chicago police shooting a man who they said pointed a gun at them.
On May 26, Chicago police were alerted to a shooting and approached two men sitting on a porch outside, WLS-TV reported. When officers tried to ask them about the shots fired, one of them took off running.
The man, identified as Juan Mendez, is seen on video running down an alley before falling down. Police said Mendez then grabbed a gun from his waistband and pointed it at officers, who fired at the suspect.
Mendez was critically injured but survived. Police said he was charged with assaulting an officer.
The Civilian of Police Accountability released the footage Wednesday, 60 days after the shooting.
