FORT GIBSON, Okla. — An Oklahoma officer was stabbed by a woman with a pair of scissors as he conducted a traffic stop Tuesday night.
According to NewsOn6, Officer Brent Maddocks of the Fort Gibson Police Department had stopped an SUV for an expired tag when a female suspect approached him from behind and began slashing him.
The woman, identified as 26-year-old Jessica Lugo, was on a smoke break at a nearby factory when she approached the officer. Maddocks drew his firearm but made the decision not to fire his weapon near the family of four sitting in the SUV. Instead, he deployed a TASER, according to the report.
“It’s an experience, and we take it, and we learn from it and we adapt and overcome,” said Maddocks.
Maddocks was wearing a protective vest and did not suffer any injuries, according to the Muskogree Phoenix.
Lugo was arrested and booked into the Muskogee County/City Detention Facility on a complaint of assault and battery with a deadly weapon on a police officer.
Police said there was no correlation between the traffic stop and the stabbing.
