EUREKA, Calif. - A parolee described as armed and dangerous was arrested Friday evening after a foot pursuit that began when a Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputy spotted a weapon in the man’s car during a vehicle investigation.

Deputy Anthony Largarda had stopped the suspect’s vehicle at the intersection of Broadway and Henderson around 6 p.m.

The driver, Anthony Dahm, 36, told the deputy that the driver’s window would not roll down and he would have to open the door.

“As Dahm opened his door, Deputy Lagarda spotted the handle of a revolver tucked behind the driver’s seat next to the door,” the Sheriff’s Department reported.

The gun was later determined to be a loaded .38-caliber revolver.

The deputy then ordered Dahm out of the car, told him to place his hands on the vehicle’s trunk and told the passenger, Jodene Whitaker, 31, of Crescent City to remain in the car.

“As Deputy Lagarda called for backup and attempted to place Dahm in handcuffs, Dahm ran away heading southbound on Broadway,” the Sheriff’s Department reported.

Lagarda gave chase and, with the assistance of additional deputies and Eureka police officers, took Dahm into custody in the 1200 block of Bayshore Way, the Sheriff’s Department reported.

Officers transported Dahm to Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked on charges of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent crime, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, possession of controlled substance parphernalia and a parole hold. Due to his parole status, he was not eligible for bail.

The passenger remained with the car and was cited for an infraction warrant and released at the scene.

Deputies subsequently learned that Dahm had an outstanding warrant for being a “parolee at large” and was considered to be armed and dangerous,” according to the Sheriff’s Department.
