BROOKLYN, NY - The story could be told through the bullet holes: what the bullets hit and did not hit.
Eight shots were fired in all, by a man shooting at police from a second-floor window of a house on 84th Street in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. But no one was hit, and no one was hurt.
This occurred about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday. It was all over within 72 minutes, with the suspect surrendering peacefully, according to police officials, due to three effective layers of street policing: an experienced, savvy precinct sergeant who tactically outmaneuvered the suspect; a fast-moving and fast-thinking plainclothes anti-crime unit supervisor; and an imposing, yet tactful officer of the department’s elite Emergency Service Unit.
