HOUSTON, Texas — A man made a citizen’s arrest and held a drunk driver until police arrived after the suspect attempted to get back into his car to drive off.
Alejandro Fernandez Favreau said on Facebook that was showing visiting family around when they saw a man in a wrecked car “driving like crazy, most probably under the influence.” He turned his car around and followed the man to a restaurant.
Favreau and a family member spoke to the man and called police when they stopped at the restaurant. But Favreau said he turned around to see the man getting back into his car to leave.
They pursued him again to a different parking lot where they pulled the man out of his car and held him until police arrived.
Favreau said in the Facebook post that he’s been criticized for the interaction, but he “only thought of doing something before someone got hurt.”
“I thought of two really good friends of mine that are now dead, one because he drove while really drunk and he crashed and died and the other one a few years later, died because he got hit by a drunk driver,” the post read. “He was driving his bike and just like that he was gone.”
Police identified the drunk driver as Sirkon Ash and charged him with DWI. This is his third DWI charge, Click2Houston reported.
