WASHINGTON — President Obama will posthumously award the Medal of Valor to Robert Wilson III, a Philadelphia police officer killed in the line of duty last year, according to a source with knowledge of the plans.
The ceremony will occur Monday.
Wilson, 30, was shot and killed during an alleged robbery attempt at a GameStop in North Philadelphia. He had stopped by the store to buy a game for one of his sons.
The medal honors police, firefighters and emergency medical personnel. Congress commissioned the honor in 2001, declaring it should be bestowed on public safety officers who show “exceptional courage, regardless of personal safety, in the attempt to save or protect human life.”
