NEW YORK — New York Police Department officers stepped up to the plate after New Zealand police called on them to participate in the viral “Running Man Challenge.”
The department posted a video to Facebook of officers dancing with local kids as their entry into the viral trend. They challenged the New York City Fire Department, the Boston Police Department and police in Scotland to answer the challenge next.
The “Running Man Challenge” first became popular in March after two Maryland basketball players, Jared Nickens and Jaylen Brantley, danced to the song and posted a clip to Instagram after being inspired by the originators, according to Sports Illustrated. Since then, many have taken to social media to post their own version with the hashtag “#RunningManChallenge.”
The NYPD’s video garnered over 45,000 reactions and has been viewed over 2 million times.
