PHOENIX — A man suspected in an armed robbery was fatally shot by officers after he led police on a high-speed pursuit, AZ Central reports.
The police identified the suspect as 31-year-old Steven Del Rio.
As police responded to the robbery call at a local credit union, a suspect opened fire on the officers, according to the publication.
Police then pursued a vehicle for almost an hour when two suspects got out of the car and began to flee on foot. Del Rio continued driving, trying to throw evidence out the window, Sgt. Jonathan Howard told the publication.
Officers were able to force the car to a stop on the side of the highway when Del Rio tried to get back onto the highway. Officers opened fire and Del Rio was killed, Howard said.
Two other men are in custody and all known suspects have been stopped or detained.
