COLORODO SPRINGS, Colo. — A man led about 20 officers on a nearly three-hour cat-and-mouse chase through the city, taunting officers via cellphone that he was driving around drunk, according to a 911 tape released Wednesday.
Between 8:30 and 11 p.m. March 8, Colorado Springs police received at least six cellphone calls from a man police identified as Alexander Craig, according to a police report.
“Come get me,” the caller told police when he called 911, according to a tape transcript provided by 9News.
“What is your name?” a dispatcher asked.
“I don’t know,” replied the caller. “I’m too hammered right now, man.”
The caller continued to taunt police.
“I’m drunk and driving at the same time heading down South Academy. I called earlier, and I still ain’t got nothing from you fools,” he said.
Two officers attempted to stop the vehicle at Palmer Park and Academy boulevards, but the vehicle sped off, the police report says.
The car then headed south and finally stopped in a grocery store parking lot.
Craig was arrested on suspicion of vehicular eluding, driving under the influence, resisting arrest and numerous traffic violations.
