Police fired gunshots at an 18-year-old man but did not hit him Monday afternoon during a short high-speed chase through a west Mobile neighborhood, authorities said.
Charges were pending against Christopher McClain, who had not been booked into Mobile County Metro Jail as of Monday evening, according to police spokesman Officer John Young.
On Monday afternoon, police received a somewhat vague complaint that a man driving a red Oldsmobile Alero in the Mobile Terrace community off of Old Shell and Cody roads was in some kind of danger, Young said.
While officers were in the area making an unrelated traffic stop, they spotted the Alero, Young said. Heading south on Lincoln Boulevard, the car sped up toward the officers, nearly hitting two police cruisers, Young said.
The Alero then took a right onto Old Shell Road but came back onto Lincoln, then made a right onto Seventh Street, Young said.
With the officers in pursuit, the car backed up onto Lincoln, striking one of the cruisers, Young said.
Then an officer fired rounds into the car.
The Alero drove into a wooded area on Lincoln, where police arrested the driver, Young said, after using a Taser, causing minor injuries.
McClain was taken to the University of South Alabama Medical Center for treatment, Young said. Neither of the officers was injured.
Young said McClain would be taken to Metro Jail after he was released from USAMC.
Young said he did not know what charges McClain will face.
