EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — U.S. 212 in Eden Prairie remains closed in both directions Friday after a police chase and subsequent police-involved shooting that left two dead.

No police officers were hurt, according to Minnesota State Patrol spokesman Lt. Eric Roeske.

Visible on MnDOT traffic cameras, several police vehicles surrounded another vehicle on U.S. 212 between Minnesota 101 and Dell Road shortly before 8 a.m.

Shortly after 8 a.m., ambulances were sent to the scene. It was not immediately clear who the victims were.

More details are expected to be released during a 12:30 p.m. news conference at Eden Prairie City Hall, according to the State Patrol.

The vehicle was fleeing police for at least 10 minutes before being stopped, at points with its hood popped and lying against the windshield.

Traffic is being re-routed away from the scene, and rush-hour backups stretching back nearly a mile fouled traffic in the area.
The route will likely remain closed until at least noon, transportation officials said.
