PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. — President Donald Trump has pardoned a former Maryland police officer who was convicted in a 1995 use-of-force incident, said a White House press release.
According to the White House and WUSA, Stephanie Mohr released her K-9 on a handcuffed burglary suspect. The K-9 bit the man’s leg, requiring 10 stitches.
Mohr was convicted in 2001 of violating the man’s civil rights and served 10 years in prison.
Mohr’s supporters maintain the former police officer was unfairly targeted.
“It’s a pinch yourself moment,” Mohr said from her home in Maryland to WUSA. “I’m thrilled, I’m humbly grateful. I’m not surprised.
Mohr’s clemency is supported by Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund and the Fraternal Order of Police, according to the White House.
