PHOENIX- Police used patrol cars as battering rams Thursday to stop a pickup truck that led officers on a chase that ended at Sky Harbor International Airport, where controllers were forced to momentarily stop air traffic.
Police said they began chasing the truck after getting a report of a stolen vehicle, and the driver eventually drove through a security fence at the airport
At least three officers fired at the pickup after it crashed through the fence. Police said the suspect wasn’t hit. He was admitted to a hospital for a medical condition and will be booked into jail when doctors release him, police said.
Authorities said Damian L. Holmes, 29, faces several felony charges including aggravated assault on police officers plus two unrelated warrants and could also face federal charges.
Sky Harbor officials said air traffic controllers stopped air traffic for a few minutes during the episode.
