HOUSTON, Texas — Video captured during an officer-involved shooting in Houston shows a good Samaritan pulling a wounded police officer to safety, KHOU reported.

John Lally said he saw the shooting unfold while on his way to work. He pulled out his phone and recorded the video “in case his job didn’t believe him,” according to the report.

“I saw that one cop get shot and I’ve been shot before in the same leg and it made me know what he was going through,” Lally told KHOU. “I just seen somebody needed help and I ran over there.”

The shooting occurred after a suspected carjacker opened fire at officers. Officers returned fire, killing the suspect, according to the report.

Lally told KHOU he wasn’t going to let an opportunity to do good pass him by.

“This is somebody’s life, so at the end of the day, I think we should all do anything and everything that we can to help people,” he told KHOU.

Officer J. Gibson is recovering in the hospital after having surgery on his leg, according to the report. Houston police told KHOU that Gibson is 29 years old, has worked for the department for five years, is married and a father to a 1-year-old.
