ODESSA, Texas — A man awaiting trial on charges of killing three West Texas police officers has died after a long battle with cancer.

An Ector County district attorney’s statement says Larry Neil White died Tuesday morning in Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

The 62-year-old suspect was charged with killing the officers during a domestic disturbance call at the Odessa home he shared with his wife.

Cpls. Arlie Jones and John “Scott” Gardner died in the Sept. 8, 2007, attack. Cpl. Abel Marquez died four days later.

White had been scheduled to go on trial several times on three counts of capital murder and three of attempted capital murder. Prosecutors had planned to seek the death penalty. His illness, however, prompted multiple delays.
