TAYLOR COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida community is in mourning after a Taylor County sheriff’s deputy was killed Monday morning in a car crash.
Deputy Scott Williams was driving his patrol car when he collided with the back of a logging truck, the Tallahassee Democrat reported. He was taken to a hospital where he later died due to his injuries.
Williams, a member of the department since May 2015, brought joy to every room he walked into and was the comedian of the agency.
“When he walked in the room, he wanted to make you laugh every time,” Lt. Buddy Lee told the publication. “He came into our family and kind of took over and became the jokester, the one who made sure your spirit was up every day.”
The crash is under investigation until FHP determines there was no wrongdoing. The driver of the truck was uninjured.
Williams was recently promoted to Officer in Charge.
“It’s more difficult when it happens to your family,” he said. “When it comes around and happens to the department or one of the officers… We all come together.”
