FAIRFIELD GLADE, Tenn. — A Fairfield Glade police officer died of natural causes while on duty New Year’s Eve. 

WBIR reports Officer Jerry Singleton was on duty when he died. Singleton, 52, served in law enforcement for over 30 years. He joined the Fairfield Glade Police Department in May 2019. 

"This is an extremely tough day for our department. Jerry was liked by all and he had the ability to connect with everyone," Chief Michael Williams wrote in a statement to news outlets. "Officer Singleton died while serving and this is what he loved to do." 

Singleton is survived by his son and daughter-in-law.
