Wash. officer dies of medical emergency while on duty

YAKIMA, Wash. — The Yakima Police Department is mourning Sgt. Joseph Deccio, 38, who died in the line of duty on Tuesday. 

On Facebook, the department said Deccio “suffered a significant medical episode” while at work. He was rushed to the hospital and later died despite life-saving efforts. 

A 15-year veteran of the department, Deccio served as a field training officer, school resource officer, SWAT sniper team leader, field training coordinator and detective.
