Their Eyes and Hands Reveal Secrets, Part 1

From traffic stops to Terry stops (those involving reasonable suspicion if not probable cause), when you ask individuals whether they have guns, drugs or other contraband, watch where their eyes go and what their hands do. We all know that when subjects shift their eyes away from you during questioning, it is often an indicator of deception. I have also found that when asked about specific contraband, some will turn away from you and, without knowing they’re doing it, even look at a specific location in a vehicle as they tell you they do not have anything. Likewise, they may also touch their outer clothing, where weapons or drugs are located on their person, showing you the hiding places. Of course, let us not forget the obvious “involuntary shaking hands syndrome” when asking these questions as well.
