SANDUSKY, Ohio — An Ohio man charged in the fatal shooting of a police officer could face the death penalty if convicted.
An Erie County grand jury included that specification Wednesday when it indicted 50-year-old Kevin Randleman, of Sandusky, on charges of aggravated murder, carrying a concealed weapon and illegally having a gun as a convicted felon.
Authorities allege Randleman shot Sandusky police Officer Andrew Dunn early Saturday after Dunn stopped Randleman, who was riding a bicycle. Randleman was shot and taken to a Toledo hospital, where he remains.
Defense attorney Jeff Whiteacre says he has not yet met with Randleman but expects him to be arraigned once he’s released from the hospital.
Prosecutor Kevin Baxter says the evidence against Randleman includes video from a dashboard camera in Dunn’s cruiser.
