CHICAGO — With temperatures getting down to the teens at night, some Chicago officers wanted to make sure a panhandler stayed warm.
Officers Robert Osborne and Peter White were on patrol when they spotted a man panhandling near a busy highway exit, CBS Chicago reported.
They issued him a ticket, but noticed he only had a thin jacket to protect him from the brutal Chicago winter.
Osborne and White visited the man again to give him a heavy winter coat and shared the act of kindness on Facebook.
The video has been shared over 2,500 times and viewed by more than 295,000 people.
“I don’t think that he gets people actually truly caring, and it felt nice for us, but I think he was appreciative himself,” Osborne told WBBM radio.
Inspired by their encounter, the officers started a clothing drive. Donations can be sent to the Chicago Police Department’s Austin District Police Station at 5701 W. Madison Street.
