Tribal officer killed, 2nd wounded in Ariz. shooting; suspect dead
A White Mountain Apache Police officer was fatally shot while attempting a traffic stop

WHITERIVER, Ariz. — A tribal police officer was fatally shot Thursday evening after attempting a traffic stop and a second officer was wounded in a shootout with the suspect, ABC 15 reported. The suspect was also killed.
The incident began just after 7 p.m. when a White Mountain Apache Police officer made a traffic stop. Few details about the stop were immediately released, but police said an altercation occurred where the suspect shot and killed the officer, according to the report.
The suspect then stole the officer’s cruiser and led other officers on a pursuit that ended in a gunfight. The suspect was killed and a second officer was wounded. The name of the deceased officer and the condition of the wounded officer were not immediately released.
The incident remains under investigation.
