A military friend of mine in the academy got me in the habit of tucking my laces in to the top of my boots after tying them. He said it was a thing they did in the Army so they did not get snagged going over fences and wire. I found it also kept them tied snug and not snagging on the emergency brake pedal or anything else getting in and out of the patrol car.
I used to see a lot of guys get out on traffic and stop to address their pant leg getting hung up on their boot top or laces, if you tuck them in, its smooth and your pant leg is more likely to not get hung causing a distraction.
