Cleaning your AR with the C.A.T. M-4 Tool

A couple months ago, Police1 Firearms Columnist Ron Avery let me know about the C.A.T. M-4 Tool — in fact, like giving me the shirt off his very back, gave me his C.A.T. M-4 Tool to try for myself. At the risk of sounding hyperbolic in my enthusiasm, I must say it’s one of the most ingenious and elegantly simple devices I’ve ever laid hands on.

The C.A.T. M-4 Tool enables law officers with an AR system to clean their weapon and restore the bolt and carrier group to tactical tolerance in a matter of minutes. With just a few turns of the tool on your bolt, bolt carrier, and firing pin, you can take off a stunning amount of carbon and grit. Add a patch or two and some solvent to the process and your results are “inspection clean” in the same amount of time

Its incredibly lightweight yet strong design is impressive — the tool is just 3.5 inches long and weighs only 1.4 ounces — and the company says that if you manage to break it, just send it back and they’ll ship you a new one. The device is simple to use, and is an ideal addition to the go bag of any cop who is fortunate enough to have an AR for a patrol rifle, or any SWAT officer with such a weapon.
