1. Where did your company name originate from?

The term “SOMA” is an ancient Greek term that means full-bodied. SOMA began with building a cloud-based, indoor gunshot detection device called SOMA Shield and pivoted quickly to the enterprise Public Safety Ecosystem we have today. The name stuck. The meaning is still relevant in the Greek translation. We protect bodies; we safeguard lives.

2. What was the inspiration behind starting your company?

Our CEO, Peter Quintas, is an engineer at heart. He loves building new products and companies from the ground up. He was initially part of a small group that acquired a legacy public safety company about 17 years ago. He kept close to the space and returned to it because of a lack of technological innovation and vendor consolidation, leaving our agencies, law enforcement and first responders significantly underserved.

3. What is your signature product and how does it work?

Our core product is the SOMA Global Platform, an industry-leading, cloud-native enterprise platform built for public safety agencies. Our platform includes four key suites: critical response, incident management, courts and corrections, and administration. The SOMA solution modernizes software with a unified ecosystem of pre-built applications, workflows, automations and data interoperability to enable our partners to focus on what matters most, fulfilling their mission in the communities they serve.

4. Why do you believe your products are essential to the police community?

The SOMA Global Platform is empowering public safety agencies nationwide with the necessary transformation to do their jobs more efficiently, reliably and safely; we are re-thinking and advancing public safety software with our partners. At SOMA Global, we believe in building more innovative technology together.

5. What has been the biggest challenge your company has faced?

We embrace each challenge as an opportunity and continue to grow swiftly because of it. The most considerable challenge facing public safety today is often the unknowns of significant change; it’s our job to educate our partners and walk them through the critical path to innovation.

6. What makes your company unique?

We are bringing a new era of critical-response technologies to public safety and government agencies. SOMA Global is the only company that has built a truly cloud-native, robust, configurable platform that addresses the nuances of state and local policies and procedures. Our partner agencies can easily access our applications from any device, anywhere and share data inter-agency. Future innovation is accelerated on our modern platform, allowing for low/no code development, interacting with rich media and devices, and leveraging artificial intelligence to automate tasks. The SOMA Platform (as a whole) is a cutting-edge breakthrough.

7. What do your customers like best about you and your products?

Our platform is unique in that it’s genuinely unified, easily accessible and highly configurable, meaning it’s a platform that works for our agencies and not the other way around. Our public safety partners deserve cutting-e

dge technology to help them better serve their communities and to operate more efficiently and safely; serving them is our purpose and our platform enables that mission.

8. What is the most rewarding part of serving the first responder community?

There is no greater reward than serving law enforcement, first responders and dispatchers. Our partnerships mean everything to us, and we couldn’t do what we do without them; it’s truly an honor to serve the public sector. People’s lives depend on public safety professionals and their ability to respond and react to situations effectively and quickly – playing a part in serving that great mission is an honor and privilege.

9. Do you support any charitable organizations within public safety community?

We have the opportunity throughout the year to support various charity organizations, including the Wounded Warrior Project, which is a fantastic cause supporting wounded veterans and active-duty service members. We also sponsor local, state and regional events at the public safety and law enforcement conferences we attend. We host monthly wellness challenges and enable our employees to donate to a charity of their choice, which is a great way to encourage giving back to our great community.

10. Is there anything else you’d like to share with our users about your company?

We are incredibly proud that more than 70% of the SOMA team has direct, prior public safety or public safety technology experience. These combined years of mission-critical expertise enable us to effectively collaborate with our partners in driving the necessary transformation with their software solutions.
