SEA GIRT, N.J. — A New Jersey State Police recruit died Tuesday after officials said he was injured last week during a training exercise.

In a Facebook post Thursday, state police said a recruit fell unconscious during a boxing bout with a fellow classmate.

The recruit, identified as 27-year-old Lucas Homeijer, was taken to a hospital where he later died, according to FOX 29.

The state attorney general’s office is reviewing the circumstances of the incident, said FOX 29. Police say all countermeasures/boxing classes have been suspended pending the review.

Officials haven’t released the cause of Homeijer’s death.
