Can safe injection sites help reduce drug overdoses?

In late 2021, the nation's first safe injection sites, also called overdose prevention centers (OPC), opened in New York City after a record-setting year for overdoses. The sites will offer clean needles, information about addiction treatment and naloxone. The city's Health Commissioner Dr. Dave Chokshi said that the OPCs are part of a broader strategy of harm reduction.
