PALM COAST, Fla. — A Palm Coast man was arrested Thursday for possessing 11 pounds of marijuana which he had stolen from the nearby beach, according to a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office press release.
Robert Kelley, 61, is charged with possession of marijuana and was given a bond amount of $2,500, according to FCSO.
Deputies responded to a call Thursday morning at Jungle Hut Park about a suspect, revealed to be Kelley, who was taking brown packages that were washing up on the shore.
Authorities in St. John’s, Volusia and Flagler counties have been recovering packages containing marijuana on coastal shores for the last week. Flagler stated in the release that deputies have recovered 100 pounds of marijuana in the last two days.
Deputies approached Kelley, who said he was holding the marijuana for law enforcement, according to the press release.
When the deputies asked Kelley why he hadn’t called law enforcement, he said “he did not know if the Sheriff’s Office was going to come or not.”
FCSO searched Kelley’s vehicle and located a brown towel concealing 11 pounds of marijuana in his trunk, the press release showed.
