EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Police who went to rescue a man from an Evansville area home surrounded by floodwaters ended up arresting him.
Thirty-year-old Ryan D. Sanders called 911 Tuesday after he ran out of drinking water in his home, which had been surrounded by water from the Ohio River.
The National Weather Service says the Ohio River crested at 43.6 feet Sunday and has declined about 5 inches since then.
Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. David Weiss says a neighbor rescued Sanders by the time deputies and firefighters arrived.
But the deputies found Sanders was wanted on four outstanding warrants for failure to appear in court and arrested him. He was being held in the county jail on $800 bond Tuesday night.
