LOS ANGELES — The American Music Awards was opened with a touching tribute to America’s first responders.

PopZette reported that actor and musician Jamie Foxx started the awards ceremony by standing amongst first responders onstage with his family and honored the responders for the many incidents in which they were needed this year.

“Got my daughter here, my family here, because we want to talk about something sincere,” Foxx said. “From hurricanes, wildfires, hate, hatred-fueled violence, 2017 was a year that tested our faith. In these moments of crisis, heroes emerged. With us tonight are some of our first responders who ran toward the danger when it would have been so easy to run away.”

“As this year comes to a close, we look forward to 2018, with hope,” Foxx added. “For even as we mourn those who were lost, we know this: Together, our strength will pull us through. Together, we shall overcome the pain.”

Foxx concluded the tribute by thanking the first responders, and invited the crowd to join him, which resulted in a large applause.
