Chandler police confiscated 153 pounds of cocaine with a $5 million street value, the largest such bust in the city.
Detective Robert Krautheim, a Chandler police spokesman, announced the bust Monday morning but would not give details because the investigation is continuing.
“Obviously it’s going to be a big dent in somebody’s wallet of profitability,” Krautheim said of the 71 bricks of cocaine displayed under the watch of two narcotics detectives.
Police would not confirm whether there have been any arrests in the case.
Krautheim said the investigation led undercover detectives into several Valley cities.
“Narcotics investigations are very nomadic and they take different turns,” Krautheim said. “Sometimes, cut and dried and we’re able to make arrests immediately. In this particular case, it’s just leapfrogging” to other contacts.
Chandler police will send the case to the state Attorney General’s Office for prosecution after the investigation is finished.
