CHICAGO — A uniformed Chicago police officer who posted an NFL protest photo on Facebook has been reprimanded by the department.

Officer John Catanzara posted the photo Tuesday to his Facebook of him holding an American flag while in uniform in front of a patrol car, WGN TV reported. A sign in front of him read “I stand for the anthem, I love the American flag, I support my president and the 2nd Amendment.” The post has since been deleted.

He said he posted it because he loves the United States “even with all its faults.”

Two other Chicago officers were reprimanded this week for kneeling while in uniform. Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told the Chicago Tribune that the three officers were reprimanded for violating department policy that prohibits them from participating in any partisan political campaign or activity while on duty.

“The rules prohibiting officers from making political statements while in uniform will be applied consistently,” he said.

The photos were posted after President Donald Trump commented that NFL owners should fire players who kneel during the national anthem.
