Video: NY police handcuff mailman after he yells at police

The man was angry that an officer nearly hit his mail truck

NEW YORK — A video captured four officers and a lieutenant handcuffing an on-duty mailman last week, New York Daily News reported.

The mailman, 27-year-old Glenn Grays, told the news site he was driving on March 17 when an unmarked patrol vehicle nearly hit his mail truck. Grays then yelled at the police who stopped, backed up and got out of their vehicle.

Cellphone video of the incident captured by bystanders quickly went viral.

Grays was placed in the back of the cruiser and the mail truck was left unattended.

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams told the news site what the mailman did was not a crime.

“They place handcuffs on an on-duty postal employee delivering the U.S. mail. If they would do that to him in his postal uniform, they would do it to any person of color in that community,” Adams said at a press conference. “It is not a crime for someone to voice outrage after almost being struck by a vehicle.”

Grays was not charged with any crimes, according to court records, however Adams claimed Grays was issued a summons.

The department told the news site the incident is under review.
